Christopher McDonald only played an asshole in a handful of films.
Actually, Chris McDonald has been in over 85 movies, often as "the asshole," including Dutch, Thelma & Louise, Quiz Show, House Bunny, Flubber, Grumpy Old Men, Terminal Velocity, the Iron Giant, Requiem for a Dream and, of course, Happy Gilmore.
Atherton is awesome but McDonald has probably surpassed him as the "go to guy" for this kind of part.

the general building theory is that the earth 2 scenes are a mixture of smokey and jacob re-establishing the world, where everyone wins and loses at the same time. locke gets to be with peggy bundy, but he's in a wheel chair. ben gets to be with alex, but he has no power. sayid gets to be with nadia, but she's fucking his brother. charlie gets to have his drugs, but has to have prison sex. etc.
Oooooh! THAT makes much more sense than my half-assed shit-on-shit theory. I'm going to let you play the alpha-male on this one, Robert. I cannot contend with your prowess and random use of exclamation points.

Oh shit, THAT would be cool! But, only if they are completely new characters who are similar to their LOST characters. Except Locke has to be a bit more badass.
