because the content they produced is what generates any ad revenue. like syndication and home video/dvd sales they are entitled to the continued profits that are generated due to their work.

But they didn't make the ads. They had no part in their conception. In effect, it's the online content that refer people to their actual work. That, in essence, is the payoff.

it's not just ads that are online. there are itunes sales of full episodes, streaming the episodes on the network's website (which has commercials to generate revenue). asking for royalties on that is no different than getting royalties for syndication or home video sales.
because the money coming in (either in advertising dollars or consumer dollars) is due to the content produced by the writer.

Since the syndicated home videos aren't the same as direct downloads or streaming data, there is a difference. The biggest difference, as far as I can tell, is that writers have specific accountability for TV ratings and DVD sales. But because there's no real way to get accurate numbers from the internet ratios, that doesn't entitle them to residuals or royalties.

In any event, if I were to entertain the purchased downloads argument, It seems that would have more to do with iTunes as a medium than the studios as a provider of the product--If they are indeed providing it.

Beyond that, one can't prove that the ads being run on the Network's streams actually make up for their bandwidth hike. So that's another point against the idea that commercial revenue is equatable to free streaming. Not to mention that still doesn't directly connect the writers as true contributors to the ad campaign.

the Studios have sued YouTube for costing them billions in lost revenue.

both the RIAA and The Studios have their own online businesses, they are selling MP3's and showing clips with ads to lose billions, obviously theyre making them from online revenue.

well how about they say for every x amount made the writer gets x amount in royalties. isn't that generally how it works? it doesn't matter if they know this or that about online marketing, if it makes them any money then some of that is owed to the person who created it.
it's how the industry works, pariah. this isn't your mom's basement that summer when your uncle frank made you make those movies whether you liked it or not.
