I've been reading about 80% of DC's output since 94 and I can assure you that, prior to HT, the continuity was indeed tight.

The way I read my comics is to read them in the order they come out a week and in alphabetical order from that week, and I swear to you that the continuity was so tight that when I read a comic that began with a C, it made reference to what happened on the comic that began with an A.
