I was stating to believe he wouldn't come back. How many years has it been since he's "died"?

Maybe a year longer than Superman's death, but nowhere near as many years as Bucky's death...

Marvel is anticipating a lot of media buzz for this issue, which is kinda naive if it's just Cap coming back (Superman returned as four guys and not even that warranted as much media attention as his death). One of the theories I read is that the issue will announce who will play Cap in the movie, but JQ denied that. Another one is that Ultimate Cap will arrive to the Marvel U (supposedly after refusing to have anything to do with Jeph Loeb), but, again, I don't think the media would give a fuck.

Yes.However,Marvel is hoping differently which is why they have the issue available for direct ship to retailers for Monday. One,probably a slow news day and two,to drive the comic guys nuts because if they don't want to miss out they'll have to go get that one issue two days before the regular shipment.I,on the other hand don't care as much and can wait 'til Wednesday because it's not worth driving 15-20 minutes for a single issue of anything.

was there two cap'n shields? wasn't there only one molded out of adamantium ...somehow? i just assumed bucky-cap'n was using cap'n-cap'ns shield while... y'know, while he was dead n'stuff. not anything i've inferred from the comics, i just lookit the purdy pictures on my computer tv.

I always thought so too. Turns out, it's just vibranium and 'an experimental iron alloy' mix.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America%27s_Shield
 Quote:
Rogers' indestructible shield was long referred to, even in continuity, as being composed of an adamantium-vibranium alloy. This contradicted earlier established continuity, as adamantium is only developed after Rogers is revived from suspended animation, during MacLain's later experiments to try and duplicate the material of the shield. Adamantium makes its first appearance in Marvel Comics in Avengers Vol. 1 #66, July 1969.

The adamantium-vibranium error first appears in the Captain America entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (the composition of the shield is accurately described in the adamantium entry as "vibranium-iron") and was propagated in several subsequent stories by writers using the Handbook as a reference. An attempt to correct this was made in Captain America #303–304 (March–April 1985), which establishes that the shield is made of vibranium and an "experimental iron alloy", but that did not prevent the repetition of the "adamantium-vibranium" description over the years.

Haven't been reading the books and don't know how accurate Wiki is, but they say Bucky is carrying the real shield.

 Quote:
After Rogers' death, Stark takes over custody of the shield, with one replica on display in a museum, and another replica being buried with Rogers. The real one is kept by Stark to be used by the new Captain America, whenever they deem it appropriate to train a new one. After failing to find a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent capable of throwing it properly, Stark offers the shield to Clint Barton, who does manage to throw it but declines Stark's offer to become the new Captain America. The shield is subsequently stolen by the Winter Soldier, who did not want anyone else to carry the shield. Inevitably, in an effort to honor Rogers' last wishes, Stark offers to let the Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) keep the shield, and to serve as the new Captain America. Bucky accepts. This offer is made "off the books," and only the two of them, the Black Widow, and the Falcon, are aware of the situation.

From what I remember:

Captain America (Steve Rogers) carried the only truly indestructible shield on Earth. It was that original made back in WWII. They mixed Vibranium and Iron together, and then overnight a third "Element X" became present in it, and that bonded it to make it utterly and molecularly bonded. What the "element x" is, no one knows and there's been a billion guesses over the decades. I'm surprised it isn't Barry Allen coming back in time as a lighting bolt to strike the furnace...

I remember when they started saying it was an adamantium/vibranium alloy, and that never made sense to me as adamantium wasnt invented in the Marvel Universe when the shield was created.
In the earliest years it was always dubbed as an unknown compound that was created by mistake, and couldnt be recreated.
The creation of adamantium did actually negate the uniqueness of the shield though as adamantium was sposed to be indestructible.

I believe the only thing the shields alloy has over an adamantium shield is that the mystery alloy was sposed to be lighter.

Red Skull had Sharon Carter shoot Cap up with tachyons so later, using Carter as "the [snicker] constant" and a time platform built by Arnim Zola (similar to Dr. Doom's platform...similar to Reed Richards' platform...so on ad nauseum), the bad guys could pull him from the time stream and bring him back. So now Cap is "lost in the time stream" and everyone's gonna try and bring him back.

So, basically, Cap readers have waited two years for yet another "pull them from time" plot device. Which makes me want to build my own time platform and jump back in time two years so I can post this and save you more money than whatever you were going to spend on this shit.

I read on another message board that Brubaker (and this is coming straight from Brubaker) is using Slaughterhouse Five as his inspiration for this miniseries, making literal the figurative "Cap as 'Man Out Of Time'" angle. Think Lost, if you've never read Vonnegut. Which I guess, Rex, is a long way of saying "pretty much."

With enough prep time, vibranium can beat any metal

I want to say that I remember there being an explanation that it was the vibranium that allowed the shield to ricochet around like it does. I do know that the vibranium allows Cap to fall from great distances if he gets the shield under him, as the vibranium absorbs the impact safely.

I'm sure you wanted to say that, but did you have to?

If you want a free version of this comic look at the art from Ultimates #1 while reading the words from Captain America #600

Isn't the Ultimate version actually superhuman, instead of just "peak human"?

Ultimate Cap. America is more WWII soldier than superhero. The whole soldier aspect seems to be more of an afterthought with the reg. Capt.

I think it has to do with the fact that Sikk was born without ankles.

basically. Ult. Cap's much more of an ass kicker "hit first, ask questions later" type of guy. regular Cap's been pretty watered down over the decades by different writer's ideas of what he should be, from a bike riding hippie, to a grandpa type who calls people "son". they're essentially taking him "back to basics" ala Ultimates.

I see it now. I never read the old captain America stuff and as far as the original goes I've only read him in the crossovers he's been in in the last couple years.

Cover for Reborn 2 by Tim Sale here.

Sale has always had a unique style and it usually works but that pic is downright amateurish. Out of proportion head, stiff positioning and a hastily sketched in face that looks like he just took a really tough shit.
